Social (Pastoral) Services and its Impact on the Citizens of the Czech Republic
(2024) Hamarova, Mariana; Maturkanič, Patrik; Gruber, Jan; Svoboda, Michal; Šuráb, Marian; Hišem, Cyril; Králik, Roman
The article examines social services and their impact on the citizens of the Czech Republic. This is not only important from the point of view of the present time, but also for the acute needs of the localized places of the studied area. The main objective of the study was based on this aspect in line with the main research question: How important is the concept of social services in the networking of religious institutions in the Czech Republic? The quantitative representative sample (online) consisted of 858 respondents from the Czech Republic, of which 59% (N = 506) were women and 41% (N = 352) were men. Age group representation was balanced across the five main categories, with the 41-59 age group dominating at 41% (N = 351). Two-thirds of respondents 67% (N = 575) reported having a college or high school education. The research sample identified 54% (N = 465) of participants who identified themselves as atheists in terms of religious beliefs. Almost half of the 48% (N = 413) surveyed identified having the & Uacute;sti nad Labem region as their place of residence, which can be considered a positive given the current social issues in the North Bohemian territory. In turn, we see a balanced view of our respondents in the five marked groups in relation to the size of the place of residence. From the research results, we can conclude that the social sphere plays an important role in the Czech Republic, where we see a significant role in the connection of religious institutions. It is from these religious places that our respondents expect the greatest amount of,,so- cial attention".

Caring for Mothers: a Pastoral Study on Managing Migraines During Maternity. Are Social Media Helpful?
(2024) Tkáčová, Hedviga; Kondrla, Peter; Svoboda, Michal
Background: Personal growth and health care are crucial during a woman's productive working period of life but also represent a fundamental necessity for mothers on maternity leave, particularly within culturally ingrained practices such as those observed in Slovakia . The tradition of maternity and later parental leave, which lasts up here to three years, is a relatively rare model of childcare among European countries. Most Slovak mothers consider this time a benefit, even though this approach might result in a significant loss of their professional development while dedicating their time to household and childcare during these three years. Methods: The aim of this research was to explore the experiences of mothers on maternity or parental leave who suffer from migraines, as well as their perceptions regarding the use of social media (SM) whilst suffering from this condition. Qualitative research methodology was used to conduct the research. 17 respondents, mothers on maternity or parental leave, from different regions of Slovakia and different socio-economic backgrounds participated in the study. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data. Results: Research findings indicate that for the mothers in our study, social media serves as a crucial resource for: 1) obtaining essential information on migraine treatments and relief strategies, 2) finding inspiration for managing their condition, particularly through "stories of others" dealing with similar health issues, 3) gaining social support from online communities, and 4) focusing on self-care through content related to self-care practices shared on social media. Conclusion: The results of this research can assist healthcare providers and social policy makers in enhancing the quality of healthcare services, particularly in providing online support for mothers during maternity or parental leave. Furthermore, these findings may serve as a valuable resource for future studies and play a role in advancing more effective healthcare practices in both traditional and digital settings.

Manipulation as a Risk Factor for Psycho-Social Health
(2024) Svoboda, Michal; Medzihorský, Štefan; Gruber, Jan; Janáčková, Laura; Šuráb, Marian; Králik, Roman
Background: The article focuses on the issue of manipulation in interpersonal relationships and its impact on psycho-social health. The objective is to define psycho-social health, to characterize the signs and forms of manipulative behavior, to clarify the relationship between manipulation and psycho-social health, to describe the unfavorable psychological states caused by long-term exposure to manipulation, to characterize coping strategies for manipulative behavior, and to clarify the importance of spirituality in fostering psycho-social health. Methods:Abstracting and comparing facts from information sources, redefining the issue under review, generalizing available information and drawing conclusions. Results: Psychosocial health is an integral part of a holistic view of health. It depends on the quality of interpersonal relationships in the social environment. Manipulative forms of behavior are one of the risk factors for disrupting the balance between the social environment and the human psyche. Long-term manipulation can lead to the onset of undesirable psychological conditions: psycho-reactive disorders, neurotic disorders and psychosomatic diseases. Resistance to manipulation is determined by frustration tolerance, a person‘s self-concept and the level of social skills mastered. An important aspect for coping with manipulation and enhancing psychosocial health is the spiritual dimension of the person.

Mapping frameworks and approaches to measuring the quality of transition support services for young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
(2023) Brown, Julie-Beadle; Šiška, Jan; Káňová, Šárka
Transition to adulthood for young people with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities (IDD) has been given significant attention in research, policy development and practice. The aim of this paper was to explore how a recently developed theoretical outcomes-based framework for measuring the quality of services for people with disabilities could potentially be useful in conceptualizing and supporting successful transition to adulthood. The theoretical discussion draws on both the scoping review and template analysis that was used to develop the Service Quality Framework and on a separate study synthesizing expert completed country templates and literature review which included models of and research on successful transition to adulthood. Synthesis identified that using a quality of life outcomes focused framework of Service Quality could be mapped onto and extend current thinking on what is seen as successful transition to adulthood by putting the focus on successful transition as people with IDD moving towards having similar opportunities and quality of life as other adults without disabilities living in the same community/society. Implications of a more wide-ranging definition and holistic view for both practice and future research are discussed.

Same Progress for All? Inclusive Education, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities and Students With Intellectual Disability in European Countries
(2021) Buchner, Tobias; Shevlin, Michael; Donovan, Mary-Ann; Gercke, Magdalena; Goll, Harald; Šiška, Jan; Janyšková, Kristýna; Smogorzewska, Joanna; Szumski, Grzegorz; Vlachou, Anastasia; Demo, Heidrun; Feyerer, Ewald; Corby, Deirdre
Over the course of the last 30 years, inclusive education has emerged as a key aim of education policies around the world. Also in Europe, most countries took efforts to make their education systems more inclusive-which led to growing numbers of children and young persons with disabilities in general education in Europe. The implementation processes of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) fuelled these efforts. However, as some authors have argued, not all students with disabilities seem to have benefited in the same way from these developments-such as children and young persons with intellectual disability (ID). This paper aims to explore this phenomenon in more depth by comparing some measures in relation to the implementation processes of the UNCRPD of seven European countries. Doing so, we analyze trends in placements (mainstream and special schools) of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) in general and of students with intellectual disability specifically. As we show, an increase of students identified as having SEN in mainstream schools can be observed in all countries during the implementation process of the UNCRPD. However, in comparison to this rather broad group of learners, the percentage of students with intellectual disability in mainstream settings did not increase as much. Furthermore, the calculation of the "exclusion rate" revealed that this group of learners remains a key population of special schools. These results need to be understood as effects of specific shortcomings in the implementation of the UNCRPD, as we discuss in a further section. We conclude our paper with recommendations on future research and policies on inclusive education regarding students with intellectual disability.

    Affinity Continuum: Toward Professional Autonomy
(2024) Šimek, Jan; Procházková, Lenka; Dubec, Michal
How does one become a good leader? The authors suggest that the path toward professional autonomy is illustrated by the affinity continuum. This is an original model of how skills are acquired based on a descriptive approach to a learner’s affinity to those skills. The authors describe trainer strategies that support reaching higher affinity levels in a learner and link them to a specific teaching style. The transitions between the stages are illustrated with a case study of a teacher trainee learning to use the drama triangle. Three affinity stages are presented—tentative, symptomatic, and conceptual—each of which is accompanied by the identification of discounts that are typically observed in trainees in the given affinity stage. The fourth stage is professional autonomy, where the skill becomes an integral part of the learner’s skill set and professionalself. The authors propose that effective leaders should strive for professional autonomy and that they can use the affinity continuum as a tool for supporting the growth of their team.

Advances and gaps in policy, practice, and research in transition for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities across four countries
(2024) Šiška, Jan; Beadle-Brown, Julie; Tichá, Renáta; Stancliffe, Roger; Abery, Brian; Káňová, Šárka
The difficulties faced by youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) and their families as they move into adulthood are widely documented. The aim of the paper is to explore the current situation in terms of transition processes and outcomes in four countries (the US, UK, Australia and Czech Republic) and identify commonalities and differences that help elucidate what might determine different outcomes. Two research methods—expert knowledge and rapid literature review—were combined to identify sources from which information on transition policy, processes, support practices and outcomes was extracted and synthesised. This review identified gaps in the research evidence including inadequate collection and use of data to drive policy and determine effectiveness, limited evidence-based models or frameworks for successful transition. There was little transition research that included the voices of young people with IDD. More research is necessary to study the practices of highly successful programmes, and to explore the impact of transition programmes and disability support services on a broader range of outcomes, capturing the experiences of young people themselves and identifying factors that determine successful outcomes.

Student adaptation to distance learning: An analysis of the effectiveness, benefits and risks of distance education from the perspective of university students
(2024) Kubíková, Kateřina; Boháčová, Aneta; Slowík, Josef; Pavelková, Isabella
This research study provides an analysis of university students' experiences of distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Its main objective was to identify factors influencing students' adaptation to the online learning model. A total of 932 undergraduate students from a large Czech public university participated in the research through an online questionnaire. The data were processed using a mixed model design, which combines qualitative and quantitative research methods. In the case of our research, the initial qualitative phenomena were converted into numerical data, which were then processed using quantitative analyses. Response frequencies were grouped into categories, which were then analysed using binary logistic regression based on odds ratios. Ordinal and cardinal data were analysed using both descriptive and inductive statistical analysis. The results showed that, in addition to teaching methods and content, students' own adaptation to distance learning plays an important role, and that there are significant differences in this adaptation between students according to gender, type of programme and learning preferences. We also found that contact with teachers remains a key element of student success, and that maintaining communication with teachers is essential to setting an appropriate pace of learningand minimising student frustration. We identified key adaptive factors that influence student success in distance learning, such as personality profile, motivation, study skills and selflearning skills. An important finding of the study was that there is a need to identify educational content that can be delivered at a distance and those that require only face-to-face teaching. This appears to be a key requirement for the effective implementation of distance learning in higher education. The study also points to the need to evaluate the effectiveness of different teaching methods for learning in terms of their impact on student success in the distance learning mode. On the basis of the results obtained, we consider it necessary for universities to invest sufficiently not only in technical equipment and in the training of teachers in the use of the available technologies, but also in strengthening the pedagogical and psychological competences of all teachers.
