dc.description.abstractTato bakalářská práce se zabývá otázkou významu a překladu, přičemž se zaměřuje na teorii Radikálního překladu, jak ji formuloval americký filozof Willard Van Orman Quine. Zkoumá Quineův myšlenkový experiment, v němž se lingvista pokouší přeložit neznámý jazyk výhradně na základě pozorovatelného chování jeho mluvčích. Z toho Quine odvozuje své závěry ohledně neurčitosti překladu a nevymezitelnosti reference. Tímto myšlenkovým experimentem chtěl podkopat takzvaný mýtus muzea a ukázat, že idea jedinečného správného překladu je nesmyslná. Práce následně představuje kritické reakce Noama Chomského, Johna Searla a Roberta Kirka spolu s Quineovými odpověďmi na vznesené námitky. Cílem práce je zhodnotit, zda a do jaké míry může Quineův experiment - a behaviorální přístup, na kterém je založen - sloužit jako platný argument proti představě jednoznačného významu.cs
dc.description.abstract-translatedThis bachelor's thesis explores the question of meaning and translation, focusing on the theory of radical translation as formulated by the American philosopher Willard Van Orman Quine. It examines Quine's thought experiment, in which a linguist attempts to translate an unfamiliar language based solely on the observable behaviour of its speakers. From this Quine derives his conclusions regarding the indeterminacy of translation and the inscrutability of reference. With this thought experiment, he wanted to undermine the so-called myth of the museum and showed that the idea of a unique correct translation is nonsensical. The thesis subsequently presents critical responses from Noam Chomsky, John Searle, and Robert Kirk, along with Quine's own replies to the objections raised. The aim of the thesis is to evaluate whether, and to what extent, Quine's experiment - and the behavioural approach it relies on - can stand as a valid argument against the notion of unambiguous meaning.en
