Circular Economy Implementation from the Perspective of Benefits and Barriers
    (Technická univerzita, 2023) Zemanová, Veronika
The circular economy is an economic model focused on reducing waste generation and promoting resource reuse. It has gained popularity as a sustainable solution to the linear economy's negative impact on the planet and socio-economic conditions. Implementing the circular economy involves replacing the concept of "end of life" with reduction, reuse, recycling, and restoring materials at various levels, from micro to macro. To explore the benefits and barriers of implementing the circular economy in the business environment, a literature review was conducted using the Web of Science Core Collection database. Among the 1,510 initial search results, 17 relevant articles were selected for analysis with application of snowball method. These articles represent contributions from various countries, with a majority from outside Europe. The analysis of the selected articles revealed six basic groups of benefits and barriers associated with the circular economy. Benefits include improved public relations, cost savings, competitive advantage, economic growth, environmental restoration, and job creation. However, barriers such as organizational culture, lack of information, financial constraints, inadequate legislation, low awareness, and limited customer interest pose challenges for implementation. While the circular economy offers numerous benefits, its successful implementation starts at the micro level, requiring businesses to overcome internal barriers. Companies must innovate their business models, consider future directions, and navigate financial challenges. Despite obstacles, the circular economy presents an opportunity for cost savings, improved company image, and positive environmental and societal impact. By embracing this model, businesses can contribute to a sustainable and prosperous future.

Human Resources Development and Continuing Vocational Training: Comparison Czech Republic and Germany
(Verlag der GUC-Vertrieb der Gesellschaft für Unternehmensrechnung und Controlling m.b.H, 2023) Egerová, Dana; Eger, Ludvík
Digital transformation changes the economy and society, and makes significant changes in people’s lives. Human resources development is one of the basic prerequisites for the successful digital transformation. The research study is divided into two parts. In the first part EU countries are compared in selected indicators and the Gross Domestic Product per capita is used as the key performance indicator. Specifically, the comparison is focused on the Czech Republic and Germany. The second part investigates the extent to which employee training in the Czech and German enterprises pays attention to the development of critical skills for employees. Data from the European enterprise survey Continuing vocational training CVTS 6 were used for quantitative analysis. The findings show, that there are some consistencies in the overall provision of continuing vocational training, in assessing future skill needs and in the identification of the most important future skills. However, differences in enterprises ´actions to address future skill needs and in skills targeting by CVT courses were found. The findings are important for decision-makers and business leaders who are responsible for people's transformation in the context of digital transformation

Comparison of gender diversity in management positions in the Czech Republic and Germany in relation to the adoption of quotas
(Verlag der GUC-Vertrieb der Gesellschaft für Unternehmensrechnung und Controlling m.b.H, 2023) Rotenbornová, Lucie
In 2022, the European Parliament approved rules for gender equality in corporate leadership. As part of this measure, a quota was established, stating that companies with more than 250 employees must fill at least 40% of supervisory board positions or 33% of all management board positions with individuals of the underrepresented gender, which is typically women, by the end of June 2026. This measure aims to increase the number of women in leadership positions, as they are still underrepresented in these roles globally. However, there are voices suggesting that quotas are not a sufficient factor in addressing this issue. The goal of this study is to compare the trend in the number of women in leadership positions in the Czech Republic and Germany between 2015 and 2022 and to identify whether there is a significant difference between countries that have adopted gender quotas and those that have not yet done so. In 2015, Germany adopted a gender quota, which required that 30% of seats in supervisory boards of large organizations be filled by women from 2016 onwards. The Czech republic has not yet implemented a gender quota. The study uses current data from Eurostat.

Circular economy in brewery industry, case study USA
(Západočeská univerzita v Plzni, 2024) Vícha, Jakub; Januška, Martin
This article focuses on the application of circular economy principles in the brewing industry, with a case study of small breweries in Milwaukee, USA. The aim is to explore how small breweries implement sustainable practices in areas such as water management, energy use, waste handling, and by-product utilization. The research adopts a qualitative approach, collecting data through semi-structured interviews with representatives of selected breweries. The level of circular economy implementation is measured according to the 10R framework for measuring circular levels developed by Jacqueline Cramer (2022). The analysis reveals that while some breweries are in the process of adopting innovative practices, barriers such as financial constraints and lack of infrastructure persist. The article concludes with recommendations for further steps toward more sustainable beer production and the potential for broader application of circular principles in this sector.

The potential of extended reality in higher education from the perspective of digital natives
(Západočeská univerzita v Plzni, 2024) Jelínková, Eva; Nosková, Marta; Pešík, Jiří
New digital technologies drive changes across all daily life and work aspects, including higher education. Extended reality is one of the key technologies reshaping the current ways of teaching and knowledge acquisition. This term encompasses a range of immersive technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality. Existing research demonstrates that using these technologies in education facilitates learning processes, offers students engaging educational experiences, and allows them to take a more active role in managing their learning strategies. Integrating new educational technologies into education is further supported by the "digital native" nature of today's students, who have been surrounded by new technologies from birth. Current university students are considered digital natives—natural users of new technologies who are presumed to have a close affinity with their use. This paper aims to evaluate students' knowledge of extended reality technology, their opinion on the effectiveness of its solutions, the readiness of businesses in the Czech Republic for the adoption and implementation of XR solutions and students' attitudes toward its potential applications in higher education, especially in project management education. The quantitative analysis is conducted via a two-phase survey administered before and after a lecture focused on extended reality technology. The results indicate that students have relatively limited knowledge of the potential applications of this technology across the current global landscape. However, they view its potential and integration into education as essential.

The impact of „digitalization“ on sustainability reporting in Czech banks
(Západočeská univerzita v Plzni, 2024) Kristl Volfová, Monika; Palacká, Alena
The financial services sector, particularly the modern banking industry, is increasingly embracing digitalization. Sustainability reporting, which involves sharing relevant non-financial information, is a relatively new concept in banking. Its adoption is currently only partially mandatory, driven by specific regulatory frameworks such as the EU Non-Financial Reporting Directive. This directive mandates sustainability disclosures for large public-interest entities, but smaller banks and financial institutions often fall outside its scope. This paper explores how digitalization has influenced the evolution of reporting processes – from data collection and analysis to the interpretation and integration of both financial and non-financial reports. It examines how technology is leveraged to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and stakeholder engagement in sustainability reporting. The study analyzes 19 sustainability reports from Czech banks, selected from the top 100 Czech companies by revenue in 2022. Results indicate significant advancements in the use of digital tools, graphical elements, and the presentation of both qualitative and quantitative ESG data. The paper concludes with recommendations for further research and practical applications in the banking sector. The study examines nineteen case studies of sustainability reports from Czech banks, selected based on their ranking among the top 100 Czech companies by revenue in 2022. These banks include Česká spořitelna, Československá obchodní banka, Komerční banka, UniCredit Bank, Raiffeisenbank, Moneta Money Bank, J&T Banka, Fio Banka, Air Bank, and PPF Banka. The analysis found that these banks have demonstrated a high level of digitalization in their reporting practices and have progressively enhanced key areas such as textual links, use of graphic elements, and, most notably, the depth of qualitative and quantitative sustainability indicators provided.

An Evaluation of the Job Offers with a focus on Czech Digital Entrepreneurship
(Vydavatelství ZČU v Plzni, 2022) Pešík, Jiří; Taušl Procházková, Petra
The presented paper evaluates job offers posted by Czech start-ups, using data from the StartUpJobs website. The website focuses on advertising job offers for start-ups, using its definition of the term. The paper evaluates job descriptions, technological skills required by the companies, and offered benefits (e.g., remote working). The second part of the paper is focused on digital technology-related positions, as they constitute most of the offers. The structure of the required skills is compared with the worldwide trends and possible shifts in the structure of the offers are outlined, as the Czech job market tends to follow trends presented in the USA and Western Europe countries. As the last point, a variety of job descriptions is used to estimate the extent of products and services provided by digital start-ups and entrepreneurs. The outcome of the paper can be used by educational organizations to customize portfolios of their courses to match the demand of the job market. Persons interested in working in the IT industry can use the outcome to efficiently plan their education to acquire the most demanded technical skills. The HR officers of companies can see how competitive their segment of the market is and whether their advertisements lack some widely offered benefits.

    Organisational Climate: Employee Perspective
(Západočeská univerzita, 2022) Rotenbornová, Lucie; Egerová, Dana
Organizational climate is regarded as a core predictor of employee behaviour and organisational success. The purpose of the study is to explore the most positive and negative dimensions of organisational climate in four banks in the Czech Republic from the point of view of their current and former employees. A quantitative content analysis of individual employee assessments of organisational climate was undertaken. Data were collected between January 2022 and April 2022 and included 796 respondents and 1713 individual references. Among the most frequent positively evaluated dimensions were Benefit and rewards, Teamwork, Training and development and Image of organisation. On the contrary, the most frequent negatively evaluated dimensions were Structure, Salary conditions, Access to subordinates and Employee wellness. Results of the Chi square test of independence indicated that there is a dependence between the evaluated dimension and the respondent bank and the evaluated dimension and employee status , however, this dependence is weak in both cases. The practical implications and limitations of this study are discussed.

K provedení rešerše byly využity pro zajištění vysoké relevance citační databáze Scopus a Web of Science.
