| dc.description.abstract-translated | The growing globalization and digitalization of the economy are transforming the business environment, creating both new opportunities and challenges for startups seeking to expand internationally. As a small open economy, the Czech Republic is highly dependent on foreign trade, and the internationalization of young innovative firms has become a key factor in enhancing their long-term competitiveness. This paper aims to propose optimal strategies for Czech startups entering foreign markets and to identify the key criteria for selecting suitable target markets and entry modes. The methodological framework combines a literature review, secondary data analysis, and a synthesis of empirical insights into the Czech startup ecosystem. The research identifies eight groups of criteria for market selection, ranging from market and competitive factors to cultural, regulatory, and innovation-related aspects. Based on these findings, several recommended entry modes are proposed, reflecting the specific characteristics of startups such as limited resources, high innovativeness, and the need for rapid scalability. The analysis suggests a multi-stage approach consisting of three phases: initial market testing through export or e-commerce, adaptation via partnerships and accelerator programmes, and subsequent expansion through licensing or direct market presence. The study confirms that the success of startup internationalization depends on the ability to align internal innovation potential with external market opportunities. Furthermore, the paper highlights the importance of institutional support – particularly from agencies such as CzechInvest and CzechTrade. | en |
