| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this research is to explore the practical implications of automation and randomness in a plugin for Ambisonic diffusion. The specific plugin under examination is the E4L (Envelop for Live), which is designed for Ambisonic sound diffusion in Ableton Live. The E4L plugin offers highly effective effects, enabling users to achieve vivid, smooth, and organic 3D sound diffusion with a maximum of 16 outputs (3rd order). In contrast to conventional reverb or delay effects, this plugin allows for the duplication of the original sound across different sequences, utilizing feedback and precise spatial positioning.Additionally, the plugin includes diffusion tools like the spinner, which facilitates the arrangement of sound with intricate movements by leveraging automation parameters. The E4L plugin was successfully employed in the Ph.D. research concert in 2023, resulting in exceptional outcomes. This exploration stands out due to its focus on the nuanced relationship between randomized automation and an artist’s diffusion realization, emphasizing emotional depth. Coined as “semi-indeterminacy” in my Ph.D. dissertation1, this term signifies the artist’s intentional use of randomness within the system, offering a controlled balance. In Ambisonic sound diffusion, the E4L plugin’s successful integration showcases its potential to redefine the landscape, serving as a bridge between technology and authentic artistic expression. Keywords: Ambisonic Plugin, E4L, Envelop for Live, Ableton Live, Sound Diffusion, 3D Audio, Parameter Automation, Spatial Positioning, Practical Implications, Research, Artistic ExplorationThe purpose of this research is to explore the practical implications of automation and randomness in a plugin for Ambisonic diffusion.
