Crisis Resilience and Stakeholder Value Distribution in Czech and German Agriculture

dc.description.abstract-translatedIn recent years, European agriculture has faced major external shocks – first the COVID-19 pandemic and then the war in Ukraine. This study assesses the resilience of agricultural value added in Czechia and Germany, using harmonised microdata from the European Farm Accountancy Data Network. It decomposes changes in value added per hectare across four major farm types, and analyses the impact on key stakeholder groups – employees, debt providers, equity holders, and government – by separating price and intensity (volume) effects. Contrary to expectations, value added per hectare increased during the crisis years (2020–2022), wages rose despite declining labour intensity, and returns on equity improved. These findings suggest that agriculture acted as a stabilising force during the crises, and highlight the need for targeted policies that account for differentiated impacts on stakeholder groups.en
