| dc.description.abstract-translated | This article examines the challenges and barriers encountered in implementing the Food-Water-Energy (FWE) Nexus approach in the agricultural sector, with a particular focus on water management in Slovakia. Despite its potential, practical application is often hindered by obstacles such as fragmented policies, lack of stakeholder collaboration, insufficient integration of theoretical frameworks with practical measures, and inadequate investment. The „Results“ chapter highlights specific challenges faced by the Slovak agricultural sector, including the underutilization of existing irrigation infrastructure, neglect of water management networks, general underinvestment in this domain, and an urgent need to update water management strategies. A significant concern for the future is the increasing reliance on groundwater resources, while surface water resources remain underutilized. The research further emphasizes the necessity for: improved irrigation practices and hydromelioration strategies, securing adequate funding for restoration and expansion of water infrastructure, resolving ownership issues along with enhancing the role of Hydromeliorácie, š.p. Additionally, it underscores the importance of stakeholder coordination, their active engagement, and the adoption of a polycentric governance structure to support sustainable agricultural development. The study further analyzes the influence of historical and current policy frameworks, highlighting a lack of interest among policymakers and the necessity for legislative reforms to facilitate more effective and adaptive Nexus governance. By identifying key barriers and proposing improvement strategies, this article contributes to the ongoing discourse on enhancing sustainability and resilience in agricultural water management, particularly in the context of climate change adaptation. | en |
