Abstract

In this paper an attempt is made to present three practicable approaches using multivariate statistical methods for investigation of the intraurban differences of the quality of life. All of these approaches were recently applied within the research of the spatial structure of the city of Bratislava from the quality of life viewpoint. First one of the approaches uses the method of factor analysis to identify the basic dimensions of the city’s social space. In this way it can by considered as a „starting point“of latter urban quality of life analysis. Second approach, dealing with the objective dimension of the urban quality of life, uses the techniques of principal components analysis, cluster and discriminant analysis to produce the regional typology of the internal structure of Bratislava from the viewpoint of living conditions quality. The third approach focuses on the subjective dimension of the quality of life. Using the principal components analysis and subsequently regression analysis, main components of the satisfactory residential environment were identified.
