Dynamics of Large Turbine Rotors Supported by Tilting Pad Journal Bearings

Abstract

This paper is motivated by the need of dynamic analyses of large turbine rotors together with its foundation, while the rotor is supported by tilting pad journal bearings. The modelling method for tilting pad journal bearings using Reynolds equation and basic dynamics of pads is introduced. Further, the whole rotor model including foundation and stator effects is assembled using the modal synthesis. Analysis results calculated for a real turbine system are finally shown.
