What is Thelephora cuticularis (Basidiomycota: Thelephorales)?

Abstract

A study of the type specimen of the fungal species Thelephora cuticularis K(M) 69197 deposited in Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is presented. The microscopic checking of this holotype revealed that its current accepted taxonomic concept, based mainly on missing clamps on the hyphae, is wrong. The used name of Thelephora cuticularis in the sense of Corner's monograph is not in concordance with the type specimen.
