| dc.description.abstract | Cílem diplomové práce je reflexe fenoménu čarodějnictví a jeho vývoje v průběhu historie Spojených států amerických, a to v kontextu literární, příp. filmové tvorby. Úvodní část práce je věnována stručné definici základní terminologie a analýze proměnlivých vztahů magie, čarodějnictví a katolické církve. Vyobrazení kulturně historického prostředí a způsobu života koloniálního obyvatelstva v Nové Anglii bylo rovněž zahrnuto z důvodu přiblížení historického a náboženského kontextu zkoumaného případu. Práce se dále soustředí na analýzu jednotlivých čarodějnických procesů na území britských kolonií Nové Anglie, se zaměřením na případ ze Salemu, Massachusetts z roku 1692. Stručný rozbor moderních "honů na čarodějnice" z první poloviny 20. století a tzv. období McCarthismu nemohl být vzhledem k vybrané literární adaptaci The Crucible od Arthura Millera opomenut. Závěr práce se soustředí na analýzu dramatického zpracování historického námětu a konfrontuje jej se soudobou realitou, poukazuje na paralely mezi čarodějnickými procesy ze 17. století a politickými procesy ze století minulého, přičemž nachází podobné alegorické srovnání mezi čarodějnickými procesy z losinského panství na Šumpersku a jeho filmovou adaptací od Otakara Vávry s politickými procesy vedenými proti nepřátelům komunismu v bývalém Československu. | cs |
| dc.description.abstract-translated | The aim of the thesis is the reflection of the witchcraft phenomenon and its progression in the course of the history of the United States of America. The first part of the thesis is devoted to a brief definition of the basic terminology and analysis of the ever-changing relations of folk magic, witchcraft and the Catholic Church. The depiction of the cultural and historical environment and the living conditions of the colonial population in New England was also included in order to elucidate the historical and religious context of the examined case. The work also deals with the very first cases of witchcraft documented in the area of British colonies of New England (namely Connecticut, Virginia and Massachusetts), with a special focus on the historical anomaly which was the case of Salem in 1692. A brief analysis of the modern "witch-hunts" of the first half of the 20th century and the so-called McCarthyism must have been included. The final part of the thesis focuses on revealing the parallels between the witch hunts of the 17th century and the political processes of the 20th century, and finds that Miller was not the only one inspired by the theme of witchcraft. Otakar Vávra and his film adaptation to a historical novel by Václav Kaplický called Hammer for Witches is another example. Thus, a brief summary of the witch hunts at château Velké Losiny and of the political situation in former Czechoslovakia in the 1950s could not be omitted. | en |
