dc.description.abstract-translatedThe text deals with two members of the noble family Valdštejn (Wald- stein, Waldstein-Vartenberg), whose personal interest in history influenced the situation in the field of archaeological research in the 19th century in the Czech Lands. Christian Vincent of Waldstein was interested in history, he was a mem- ber of the so-called archaeological staff of the first Czech institutional museum project – the Museum of the Kingdom of Bohemia. He commissioned the first probably undocumented archaeological excavation of Lopata Castle. His grandson, Ernst Charles of Waldstein, was personally interested in history and antiquities, was the author of a few academic texts in German Language and supported the archaeological researches of F. X. Franc in the area of Šťáhlavy and Kozel Castle.
