dc.description.abstract-translatedAfter the First World War, the question of a peaceful settlement could not be solved solely through territorial changes in favor of individual states, as had been the case in previous systems. The selfish ambitions and emotions of individual leaders, especially in the relationship between France and Germany, often prevailed over justice. The Paris Peace Conference divided the world into victors and vanquished, with the defeated countries, such as Germany, having no say in the creation of peace treaties, leading to feelings of resentment and attempts to revise these treaties. The League of Nations, as the first attempt to create an international organization to maintain peace, aimed to prevent conflicts through collective security. Despite achieving some successes, the organization struggled with problems such as a lack of military guarantees and a reluctance to take unified action against aggressors. The organization never achieved universal character, as the United States did not join and Italy and Japan later withdrew. The weaknesses of the system were manifested in the inadequate response to Germany’s violations of the Treaty of Versailles and the inability to stop the expansionist steps of Nazi Germany before the Second World War. The League of Nations was formally dissolved in 1946 after the Second World War, leading to the creation of the United Nations (UN), which learned from its mistakes and strengthened the mechanisms of collective security and peaceful settlement. Despite its shortcomings, the League of Nations was an important predecessor of modern global diplomacy, and its existence laid the foundation for further efforts to maintain peace in the world.en
