dc.description.abstract-translatedOrganic farming has gained a lot of attention in recent years as one of the tools to tackle climate change. Except for environmental benefits organic farming has economic, social and health effects on society. At the EU level the importance of organic farming is reflected in the European Green Deal which aims on increasing the share of area under organic farming to 25% of total agricultural area. To reach this goal farms are financially motivated by higher market prices of organic products and instruments of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The goal of the paper is to evaluate the difference in economic performance of organic and conventional farms across 2 countries: Slovakia and Czechia. We use individual farm data to compare the performance of organic and conventional farms. We merge financial data of farms operating in Slovakia with data on agricultural subsidies including organic farming support. To evaluate economic efficiency, we use selected financial ratios (ROA, ROE) following the methodology of Naglova and Vlasicova (2016) applied for Czech farms. Further, descriptive statistics and boxplot analysis is applied. To verify statistical significance, we use normality and difference tests. Our results show differences in profitability of organic and conventional farms in Slovakia and Czechia. Czech organic farms show significantly higher profitability ratios (ROA, ROE) than Czech conventional farms, while in Slovakia organic farms are comparable to conventional farms when considering profitability ratios. Further research should focus on comparing subsidy schemes in Slovakia and Czechia.en
