dc.description.abstract-translatedThe search for effective methods to expand English vocabulary is of particular relevance. The aim of this work is to develop ways to study mental adjectives of the English language and their derivatives with the help of new educational technologies. The following research methods were used: theoretical analysis, synthesis, systematization. In our research we focused on several stages for formation of lexical competence: familiarization with new vocabulary, the formation of lexical skills and abilities, the formation of lexical skills and their inclusion in speech activity, etc.1. Students are asked to listen to some TED-talks videos, i.e. authentic sentences containing the mental adjectives and their derivatives, imitating the pronunciation (the following sites can be used here: Subzin, Yarn, PlayPhrase, QuoDB).2. Students define highlighted adjectives giving synonyms. This method promotes the activation of students' mental activity, develops language guesswork and contributes to the increase of foreign language practice. We created the game ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’ using https://learningapps.org/. Students choose the appropriate English definition for the selected word from the list. 3. Restoring English quotations and memes containing the lexical units studied at the lesson. The advantage of using memesin English lessons is their visual appeal and concise nature. 4. Translation a meme into English, using the studied adjectives and/or its derivatives. To conclude, the above-mentioned methods let follow modern trends in youth culture, which will improve the students’ motivation for English studies. Students’ interest to the English language considerably increase due to the modernity of the methods and their closeness to students’ everyday social media environment.en
