dc.description.abstract-translatedThe awarding of state awards and honors in the Slovak Republic can be considered an important means of strengthening constitutional awareness and appreci ating the contributions of individuals and institutions to the state and society. It expresses public recognition for merit in various fields including science, culture, sports and others. Despite the fact that these awards are symbolic, they play a key role in strengthening patriotism and national identity. The aim of the contribution is to analyze the historical development of the awarding of state awards and honors from the Czechoslovak Republic to the present Slovak Republic, to analyze the legal foundations and procedures associated with their awarding. Special attention is devoted to the constitutional and legislative changes that shaped the current system of state awards. As a result of our research, we intend to point out the inseparable connection between awarding awards, building democratic values and constitutional awareness in the Slovak Republic.en
