dc.description.abstractDiplomová práce se zabývá geopolitickou charakteristikou regionu Pobaltí. Na teoretické rovině je inspirována koncepcí amerického politického geografa Saula Bernarda Cohena a jeho pojetím přechodného regionu a pásma otřesu. Ve specifických oblastech geopolitického potenciálu (geoekonomice, geoenergetice, vojensko-strategické a socio-kulturní sféře)je prostřednictvím hlubokých případových studií ověřováno, zda Pobaltí inklinuje spíše k přechodnému regionu nebo pásmu otřesu. Při výzkumu je věnována pozornost jako třem státům regionu (Litvě, Lotyšsku a Estonsku), tak také hlavním externím aktérům, v našem případě Spojeným státům americkým, potažmo Severoatlantické alianci, ovládajícím geostrategický region přímořského světa a Ruské federaci dominující Kontinentálnímu Heartlandu.cs
dc.description.abstract-translatedThe thesis focuses on the transnational region of the Baltic States and it researches its geopolitical role in the regional and international relations. A theoretical framework of the thesis is the concept of an American researcher Saul Bernard Cohen dealing with two specific models of behaviour of the geographical areas being located on the edge of the differently located geostrategic realms, such as the Shatterbelt and the Gateway region. Cohen´s theoretical attitudes are applied to the Baltic Sea region, particularly in four specific areas of research: geoeconomics, geoenergetics, the military-strategic sector and the socio-cultural sphere in order to distinguish whether the Baltic States region tends to be a Shatterbelt or a Gateway region. Moreover, in each of these categories there is performed the detailed case study whose objective is to identify the motifs and expectations which the central protagonists operating on the east coast of the Baltic sea - the domestic ones (Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) as well as the external ones, primarily the United States of America and the Russian Federation.en
