dc.description.abstractPráce se zabývá fenoménem moderního pirátství v Guinejském zálivu. Pro analýzu pirátství byly vybrány tři země: Nigérie, Togo a Benin. Hlavní důraz je kladen právě na Nigérii, protože se tato země jeví jako ohnisko pirátstké činnosti v celém regionu a je zároveň největším exportérem energetických surovin, což je velmi důležité pro stabilitu světových cen na ropu. Primárním cílem práce je tedy analýza dopadů pirátské činnosti na lodní přepravu v oblasti a na ekonomiku postižených států. V průběhu jsou řešeny otázky vzniku pirátství v regionu, současná situace a to, zda vybrané země řeší složitou bezpečnostní situaci. Výsledkem analýzy je konstatování, že piráti mají výzanmný negativní vliv na ekonomiky vybraných států a na námořní přepravní společnosti působící v regionu.cs
dc.description.abstract-translatedThis thesis attempts to shed light on the growing threat maritime piracy has on the economies of Nigeria, Togo and Benin and also on shipping companies operating in this region. The Gulf of Guinea was chosen because in the twenty first century it has become one of the major hubs of operations for maritime pirates. One of the most important and least understood impacts of piracy is its financial cost. This thesis seeks to answer the questions, what are the overall financial impacts that piracy has on regional economies and shipping companies in the chosen region. It assumes that piracy increases the cost of international maritime transport through an increase in insecurity regarding goods deliveries and as a result regional economies are losing money and competitiveness as well. The first part of this paper deals with definition of maritime piracy and maritime terrorism. It also outlines types of piracy. Subjects of the second part are the history perspective of piracy and chosen countries, the development of piracy in the Gulf of Guinea in the recent time and initiatives that are being implemented by the regional economies and third parties to combat piracy. The third and the final part of this paper sets out the possible effects of maritime piracy in the chosen region (insurance rates, loss of ship and cargo, ransom money etc.). It also provides the financial costs of piracy to the shipping companies and chosen countries. According to the financial estimation, total costs of direct and indirect effects are at least several hundred million USD. Therefore the paper concludes that pirates have significant negative impact on regional economies and shipping companies in the region.en
