Calibration of model for hardening gear wheels

Abstract

The model of induction hardening of gear wheels is calibrated. This process requires a high precision and must be based on a reliable mathematical model and correct selection of input parameters. But some of these parameters are often known only with some uncertainty (physical parameters of the material and their temperature dependencies, parameters of cooling of heated teeth and so forth). Thus, the model has to be appropriately calibrated in order to reach an acceptable agreement between the calculated results and experimental data. The paper describes the methodology of calibration and illustrates it with a typical example.
