dc.description.abstract-translatedThe victims of the Second World War were not only human. The war also caused enormous material losses, from which property with artistic or cul- tural value was not saved. Part of them was destroyed by the war itself, a part was stolen from the original owners and taken away as so-called spoils of war. After the war, there was an intensive search for this property with the aim of returning it to its former owners. Sometimes these efforts were successful, but in many cases artistic and cultural values disappeared without a trace. Con- fiscated artistic and cultural property was also significant. Various institutions were involved in the process of securing it, primarily the National Cultural Commission, which decided on its further fate. Even this property was not com- pletely safe after the end of the war and various dishonest persons were inter- ested in it. This article accentuates the mentioned issue at the national level as well as a detailed view of the situation in Western Bohemia.
