Abstract
The efficiency in the power plant engineering can be increase by using the improved structural alloys with high temperature properties. A new Fe-Al-O Oxide Precipitation Hardened (OPH) steel which was developed by the authors could be a solution for this approach. Compared to oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) ferritic steels, excellent mechanical properties are guaranteed by using 10 % Al in the matrix. This paper presents the results of experimental tests investigating the deformability of different variants of OPH alloy. a series of thermomechanical tension/compaction tests with different strain rates were performed to evaluate the mechanical properties of these group of materials. The results show that OPH alloys are sensible to heat treatment as well as strain rate while annulling temperature has less effect on the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and elongation. Then by optimizing those parameters a good structure oriented material can be achieved.
