| dc.description.abstract-translated | The paper deals with the impact of the Czechoslovak television and radio broad casting on ethnic identity of Slovaks of Transcarpathia in the Soviet Union period. Slovaks faced a strong assimilation pressure supported by state policies aiming to create the “Soviet people”. The aim of the paper is to identify and analyse the impact of the Czechoslovak media on ethnic identity of Slovaks of Transcarpathia and its preservation. In the environment of isolation from Czechoslovakia, absence of own schools, media, associations and limiting the religious life, the Czechoslovak media became the contact with the Slovak and Czech culture and language. Paper’s findings are based on the interviews with respondents during our field research in Transcarpathia in 2024 and 2025. We used Oral History method in our research, which helped us to find and interpret the respondents’ memories on the Soviet Union period. | en |
