Iterative WPT shielding design and its impact on different WPT key parameters

Abstract

Within the scope of this work, the key parameters self-inductance, mutual inductance and coupling factor of a wireless power transfer (WPT) 3D model are evaluated using finite element analysis (FEA). The height and width values of a passive shielding configuration are changed iteratively and the results are compared accordingly. Furthermore, the protection against the magnetic field is examined in compliance with the defined parameters of the ICNIRP (International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection) and the IEEE/ICES (International Committee on Electromagnetic Safety) for the different shielding constellations. The results of this study provide information about the ideal dimensions of a passive WPT shielding with maximum transmission efficiency.
