dc.description.abstract-translatedThis paper explores the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in legal practice, focusing on the insights provided by selected provisions of the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct. Starting with Earl Warren‘s metaphor of law navigating on the sea of ethics, the text highlights the need for ethical guidelines that adapt to the rapid advancements in AI technologies. The paper examines key ethical challenges, such as the obligation of competence (Rule 1.1), the duty of confidentiality (Rules 1.6, 1.9(c), and 1.18(b)), and supervisory responsibilities (Rules 5.1 and 5.3). It emphasizes the necessity for legal professionals to understand the benefits and risks associated with AI to uphold ethical standards like data integrity, client confidentiality, and transparency. Comparing the ABA Model Rules with the Czech Bar Association’s Code of Conduct, the analysis demonstrates that the Czech regulations lack specificity and adaptability to effectively address modern technological challenges. The paper argues for developing more robust and detailed ethical frameworks in the Czech legal context, inspired by the ABA’s dynamic and forward-looking approach. By fostering a continuous education and technological competence culture, the legal profession can ensure responsible AI integration and maintain public trust in the age of rapid innovation.en
