dc.description.abstractTato bakalářská práce se zabývá americko-japonskou bitvou o Edsonův hřeben na ostrově Guadalcanal, která se uskutečnila v září 1942 během války v Pacifiku. Cílem práce je popsat průběh tohoto vojenského střetnutí, analyzovat strategii a taktiku bojujících stran a objasnit podstatu vítězství americké námořní pěchoty, respektive příčiny neúspěchu japonské císařské armády. Autor se nejprve zaměřuje na postup válečné fronty během prvních zhruba osmi měsíců války. Stěžejní část práce je věnována samotným událostem na Edsonově hřebenu, jejichž výsledek zásadně ovlivnil následující vývoj válečné kampaně na Guadalcanalu. Poslední část práce se zabývá důsledky bitvy v kontextu dalších vojenských operací na tomto ostrově a nastiňuje další průběh války v Pacifiku.cs
dc.description.abstract-translatedThis bachelor's thesis concerns itself with the American-Japanese battle of Edson's Ridge on the island of Guadalcanal, which happened in September 1942. The aim of this work is to describe the development of this battle and to analyse the strategy and tactics used by the opposing sides. The thesis also aims to clarify the reasons for the victory of the US Marine Corps and the causes of the failure of the Imperial Japanese Army. The author first focuses on the progress of the war front during the first eight months of the war. The main section of the work is dedicated to the events which happened on Edson's Ridge itself, whose outcome significantly influenced the subsequent course of the campaign on Guadalcanal. The last part of this thesis concerns itself with the aftermath of the battle in the context of other military operations on this island and outlines the further course of the war in the Pacific.en
