dc.description.abstractDiplomová práce je věnována jedné z méně známé životní etapy významného britského politika Winstona Churchilla. V několika kapitolách popisuji vzestup Churchillovi vojenské a politické kariéry v kontextu doby Velké Británie před a během První světové války. Práce paralelně popisuje Churchillův politický vzestup a mezinárodní ovzduší před První světovou válkou.Po vypuknutí První světové války působil Winston Churchill ve funkci prvního lorda admirality. Jádro práce je věnováno především neúspěšné operaci Dardanely. Operace byla posouzena z hlediska britských válečných cílů, efektivity, proveditelnosti a připravenosti. Churchill se stal horlivým zastáncem této operace, která nakonec zapříčinila jeho politický pád.cs
dc.description.abstract-translatedThe thesis is focused on one of the lesser-known life stages of a prominent British politician Winston Churchill. Several chapters describe the rise of Churchill's military and political career in the context of the history of Great Britain before and during the First World War. The introductory part deals with Winston adolescence during the "golden age" of the British Empire. After the outbreak of the First World War, Winston Churchill held the office of the First Lord of the Admiralty. The core of the thesis is primarily dedicated to unsuccessful Dardanelles operation. The operation was assessed in terms of British war aims, effectiveness, feasibility and readiness. Churchill became an enthusiastic supporter of this operation, which eventually caused his political downfall.en
