dc.description.abstract-translatedAfter the establishment of Czechoslovakia in October 1918, the newly formed state went through a number of internal crises, especially of economic, social, but also national character. The last crisis had its roots in the very architecture of the state under construction with the Czech‑Slovak majority. The large population of German nationality was thus in the position of a mere national minority. After their resistance by the Czechoslovak military forces and the Versailles decision of the winning powers was suppressed, they had to accept their living in Czechoslovakia, but – as they assured themselves – they did it only reluctantly and temporarily. Their hopes of improving their position were mainly directed beyond the western Czechoslovak border, to Germany. They hoped to get all possible help in their efforts to secede from Czechoslovakia. The support from Germany really came, taking various forms, and finally, thanks to it, in the autumn of 1938, the dream of many so‑called Czechoslovak Germans came true. The paper provides an insight into the impact of the neighborhood of western Bohemia with Germany and the reflections on the interwar development of the large neighbor and its influence on the lives of the so‑called Czechoslovak Germans.en
