Challenges and Opportunities of Risk-Based Inspection Methods for Fire Alarm Systems

Abstract

Risk-based approaches for the inspection of fire alarm systems offer operators and maintenance companies the opportunity to reduce both monetary and time expenditures for the operation of the systems. At the same time, the implementation of risk-based approaches for performing inspections poses challenges for those responsible. In addition to the basic classification of risks, a detailed determination of potential system vulnerabilities is required to define the depth of inspection and the inspection focus. The paper provides an overview of the most important findings with regard to risk-oriented inspection approaches for fire alarm systems and the challenges involved. A systemic approach for the successful implementation of risk-oriented inspections is presented.
