dc.description.abstractČlánek je věnován osobnosti, jež sehrála významnou úlohu v novodobých dějinách jihoafrických Zulů, avšak náležité historické zhodnocení jejího významu je až otázkou současné historiografie. John Dunn byl potomkem britských přistěhovalců se skotskými kořeny, narodil se v Jižní Africe v Port Elizabeth, ale osiřel a vyrůstal pak spolu s domorodými dětmi. Osvojil si výborně bantuské jazyky i zvyky těchto kmenů. V dospělosti získal přízeň zulského krále Cetshwaya a byl jím jmenován jedním z náčelníků, tedy indunou. Patřil mezi velmi vlivné Cetshwayovy rádce, ale v zulsko-anglické válce ho zradil a přispěl tak k porážce Zulů a konci samostatnosti jejich říše v kwaZulu. Text se snaží zmapovat rozsah a kvalitu povědomí o této osobnosti v paměti obyvatel místa, kde stával jeden z Dunnových kraalů, dnešním městečku Mtunzini v kwaZulu-Natal.cs
dc.description.abstract-translatedThe article is dedicated to the personality that played an important role in the modern history of the South African Zulus, but the proper historical evaluation of its meaning is only a question of contemporary historiography. John Dunn was a descendant of Scottish immigrants, born in South Africa in Port Elizabeth, but orphaned and grew up with indigenous children. He has mastered Bantu languages excellently, as well as the habits of these tribes. He gained the favor of Zulu king Cetshwayo in adulthood and was named by one of the chiefs, induna. He belonged among the highly influential Cetshwayo's advisors, but in the Zulo-English War he betrayed him and contributed to the defeat of Zulu people and the end of the autonomy of the kingdom in kwaZulu. The text attempts to map the extent and quality of awareness of this personality in memory of inhabitants of the place where Dunn's kraal was, the current town Mtunzini in kwaZulu-Natal.en
