Bi-Directional Converter Prototype for Second-Life Battery Energy Storage System

Abstract

The electrification in transport is a global trend. Due this the number of the batteries for the electric vehicles (EV) is increasing worldwide. The batteries that have reached the end of their primary life in EV have still a residual capacity. Next use for these batteries, known as second life, is the energy storage systems. An integral part of these applications are power convertors that act as an interface between the batteries and the energy grid. This contribution presents the Buck-Boost converter prototype with power rating up to 30 kW. The Input voltage range (battery side) is from 400 V to 700 V and the nominal output voltage is SOO V. The converter prototype is developed for Second-Life Battery Energy Storage System (SLBESS) applications.
