| dc.description.abstract-translated | Relations between Czechs and Germans in western Bohemia developed dynamically in the interwar twenty years, and their quality depended both on the political and social conditions in Czechoslovakia and on the situation in neighboring Germany. During the time of Czechoslovak prosperity, the conciliatory attitude of the West Bohemian Germans towards the common state prevailed; in times of economic and social crises, the opposite was the case. And the same was true of similar developments abroad. In practice, this development manifested itself primarily in the competition between German negativism and pragmatism. While pragmatism, i.e. the tolerant attitude of the German minority towards Czechoslovakia and the Czechs, won in times of stability and plenty, negativism triumphed in times of crisis. This was also the case in the west of Bohemia, which is documented in the presented study. | en |
