dc.description.abstract-translatedThe article focuses on the attitudes of female and male students of Czech studies towards generic masculine. Acknowledging all the limitations of such a research with a relatively small number of respondents (54 female students, 9 male students), it can be concluded that positive perceptions of the generic masculine prevail among students of Czech studies (with ratings of „rather appropriate“ and „appropriate“). However, respondents do not oppose natural ways of replacing the generic masculine in texts – they positively evaluate enumerations (studentky a studenti „female students and male students“) or replacement with an appropriately chosen adjective (studující „studying“). Rather, they reject the systematic introduction of femini ne forms of names of professions where it would look unnatural (chemička „female che mist“, chirurgyně „female surgeon“), preferring the use of generic masculine forms (chemik, chirurg) to refer to women in this professions.en
