| dc.description.abstract-translated | This article presents the measures provided for in the Galician National Diet Act of February 1891 concerning the provision of fire safety. In the 1870s, there was a notable shift in focus towards the implementation of suitable legal measures aimed at enhancing life safety. The number of fires in Galicia was considerable, with significant ramifications for the wider community. The most significant aspects of the legislation included, for instance, the stipulation of the periodicity of fire inspections, during which the safety of individual facilities was assessed, and the regulation of the status and operations of both communal and voluntary fire brigades. Concurrently, the responsibilities of the municipality were delineated with regard to the upkeep of water reservoirs, with the objective of guaranteeing access to water or the obligation to render assistance to neighbouring municipalities. Moreover, the municipalities were also charged with the enactment of fire regulations, which delineated the detailed procedures to be followed in the event of and after a fire. | en |
