Torus-obstacle method used for representing muscle path in musculoskeletal models

Abstract

Musculoskeletal models are commonly used to calculate skeletal muscle activities. Results of these studies are significantly sensitive to the muscle path. Existing models are limited by many factors e.g. unreal muscle shapes and excessive muscle sliding. Therefore, a new approach of muscle path modelling was developed, based on an obstacle-set method. However, the torus-obstacle is implemented here instead of spheres, cylinders and ellipsoids, to improve limits of existing models.

Svalově kosterní modely jsou dnes bežně využívaným nástrojem pro výpočet aktivity kostermích svalů. Tato práce představuje novou metodu pro modelování svalové trajektorie s využitím překážky typu torus namísto běžne používaných koulí, elipsoidů a válců. Tento přístup by měl eliminovat některé limity starších modelů.
