The Oral History of "Pandemic Time": Students' Lives Through the Global COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

This article offers a reflective account of student memories of the first years of the COVID-19 pandemic in both the Czech Republic and Israel. By comparing the narratives of students from these nations, we introduce the notion of “pandemic time” to describe the ways in which personal experiences of time rest betwixt and between objective historical events and individual meaning-making.Tento článek nabízí reflexi studentských vzpomínek na první roky pandemie COVID-19 v České republice i v Izraeli. Porovnáním vyprávění studentů z těchto národů zavádíme pojem „čas pandemie“, abychom popsali způsoby, jakými osobní zkušenosti s časem spočívají mezi objektivními historickými událostmi a individuálním vytvářením významu.
