dc.description.abstract-translatedAfter the creation of Czechoslovakia, relations between Czechs and Germans were burdened by, among other things, the events of March 4, 1919, when Czechoslovak security forces bloodily suppressed an attempt at a German revolt. The victims of the intervention were then honored in the following years, and the „Märzgefallene” monument was one of the annually recurring critical days of interwar Czechoslovakia. This was also the case in western Bohemia, where the greatest bloodshed occurred at the beginning of March 1919 in Cheb, Karlovy Vary and Stříbro. The West Bohemian victims of the March riots were also remembered throughout the interwar period, and the so-called Märzgefallenefeier was one of the most significant political events of the year.
