Abstract
The calculation of iron loss in electrical machines is a vast subject and their exact determination is a very complex matter due to the number of variables. The literature dealing with machine design is mainly focused on three-phase machines and thus assumes harmonic magnetic flux waveforms. Due to harmonic injection, magnetic flux deformations occur, and standard computational methods cannot be used. Therefore, this paper focuses on the calculation of magnetic flux variations due to harmonic injection in the individual parts of a nine-phase induction machine and further describes the effect of these variations on hysteresis loss and eddy current loss.
