| dc.description.abstract-translated | This paper presents an analysis of the position and performance of Slovak agriculture between 2012 and 2022, with a focus on key macroeconomic indicators, including gross value added, intermediate consumption, capital formation, employment and average wages. The data used in this study were derived from the annual reports on the agricultural and food sector, as well as from the situation and outlook reports published by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. The data was subjected to analysis, synthesis and comparison. The results indicate that, despite experiencing growth in several indicators during the period under review, the sector continues to face structural challenges, including a low share of GDP and a decline in employment. The rise in investment in agricultural capital suggests an effort to modernize, yet the reduction in utilized agricultural area and the persistent discrepancy between wages in the sector and the national average highlight the necessity for further reforms. Furthermore, the growing discrepancy between imports and exports of agri-food commodities is also noteworthy, indicating a decline in the sector's self-sufficiency.
