Abstract
The voltage distribution in an insulating system depends on the geometry and the permittivity of the applied dielectrics. The permittivity is frequency and temperature dependent. Understanding this dependence is important for the design of renewable energy sources and electric vehicles, in whose application both large temperature fluctuations and pulsed voltages occur. This work proposes a macroscopic approach to model dielectric materials in time domain FEM simulations based on broadband dielectric spectroscopy. The model is used to investigate the effect of voltage shape and temperature on the electric field strength in polymer dielectrics.
