Abstract
There was no firm established succession rule in the Assyrian Empire, and the choice of
successor depended only on the volition of the ruler who voted for one of his sons. Just during
the life of his father, Assyrian crown prince was initiated into the various activities related
to control of the state in order to get up the obligations of the ruler. The prince was also
firmly connected with the cultic sphere. His ritual purity and the right activities were in the
hands of the foremost scholars of the Assyrian royal court.
